Harper Collins, The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings 1991 filled with Alan's amazing art, LotR 8th impression (1995 printing) which is correct to accompany The Hobbit 1991, 5th reset edition (1995 year printing) as a set in a slipcase. (See my other listing without a slipcase). Crinkling to the dust jacket in places, especially top spine edge, but no paper loss with minor fading to jacket spine image.

A few dents, but nothing the penetrates the paper. Slight grubbiness to page edges, but not on pages. Note both books were first release separately in 1991 as Centenary editions.

In 1995 they bundle reprints of the two books in an ill-made slipcase. This Hobbit edition is a deeper book and HC used a carboard form to make LotR fit in the same slipcase, thus not many slipcases survive because they didn't work well as a slipcase. Dust jacket colours were also changed to a dark colour on LotR to match the Hobbit jacket spine. ISBN numbers mean nothing as far as re-prints, only the first printing has a relevant ISBN as far as registration, but publishers use the same number for re-prints, re-sets editions etc. Number lines in modern books drop the earliest number i.

1 in the next printing, which starts with 2. This is namely for royalty issues with new authors. As the print runs are huge and digitally printed, thus not the same as an old fashion first printed edition, whether or not its a first printing matters less to its collectible value than its overall condition.
