Part of a three poster set to promote the officially released books in paperback in 1965, see second photo, this listing is for the largest; the banner mural. The others are Come to Middle-earth poster and a map comprise the other two.
We have the Map for sale as well as the original concept art previously owned by Betty Ballentine. Minor tattering to some edges, however once matted for framing none of this edge damage will be visible.
Importantly colours true and most of the image is fine. There are fold ripples as shown which will flatten out once matted and framed. It is highly recommend you do frame this poster so it doesn't get damaged further. I have seen these with trimmed edges, then the matting will reduce the image size. Best then not to crop that tattered edges so this imagine size isn't reduced. We would also recommend dry mounting, gluing it to a surface.
This will flatten any wrinkles and again protect it from further damage. Under our original art listing, item number 265024963290, we describe the importance of this art to Professor Tolkien's masterpieces becoming famous world-wide.Without the 1965 paperbacks with this artwork on the cover, it may never have happened. I see these come on the market only every few years now. These early promotional posters are now one of the more scarce and unique Tolkien collectibles, in any condition. We have been a professional dealer for over 20 years. All our photos are the actual item!
If you require additional photos, please ask. If there is a particular flaw affecting the value we will mention it in the description, otherwise our photos give the best reflection of the condition.
