Ballantine printed the official versions after the release of the illegal Ace paperbacks. FotR was read a few times, with former damp to front end pages (now dry), TT and RotK are read once condition binding tight. Covers have rubbing to the colours in places, with RotK the cover corner had folded over at one stage, causing chipping to the fold. It is not otherwise cut or torn.

1965 Hobbit has a Lion on the cover which was airbrushed out on next printing. This is still an above average set includes the first mass production white slipcase, which was later replaced by the more common red box. The slipcases were produce separately so it can't be said which printing went with which slipcase except the green proto-type box which was for the second 3,2,2 printings. (the very first 1965 printings did not have a slipcase).

Now extremely scarce in any condition. We have been a professional dealer for over 20 years.
