Only one printing of this lovely set was ever published making them a real collectors item. Printed in Great Britain by Harper Collins. A very uncommon and extremely hard to find set. A beautiful unmarked set bound in green cloth with title, author, publisher and Tolkien monogram in gold to the spines of the books.

The softcover edition is more commonly seen. This set is In fantastic unread condition considering their age, the binding and pages are in excellqnt condirion. The Dust jackets are also very crisp and clean however there is some fading of the red on the spine of the dust jackets.

This set has been sat on a bookshelf so sunning on the dustjacket spine has occurred however it has protected the books completely! The dustjackets feature some of John Howe's most famous illustrations, with a Gold Band to the top and bottom with the runes in black. All dustjackets in brilliant condition with minor rubbing to the gold bands, virtually no loss of color. The original slipcase features the Centenary logo.
