This is an unread copy. There is exquisite decoration to the front black board and gilt lettering to the spine. The book basically has no faults, pages are clean and bright, a few of the pages were folded over during binding which not uncommon with the very thin India paper.
It is due to the use of India Paper that the full 3 volumes can be bound into a single volume that is only 1 inch thick. The black buckram cloth has the Tolkien design depicting the Numenorean throne with'Elendil' in tengwar, stamped on upper cover in gilt, silver and green. Housed in the original publishers Near fine slipcase. This is a beautiful design, executed by one of America's premier binders. A beautiful example of this wonderful edition.
